Female IT Engineer: That’s Me!

I am an IT Engineer at CROFTi, the techy young lady you wish your one-call-away friend, charr! Baga rah, hahaha!
Well, a lot have asked me lately about where am I working now? What do I do? ... and many more. This post is to answer those questions. I cannot guarantee that I will cover "all" but I hope I hit the important points. Please note that this post contains techy words. I tried my best to make them simpler through integrating them in relevant words and sentences that will be easily understood. I hope I did well. :)

CROFTi is an Australian-based company that specializes in delivering Innovation and technology consulting with business focused outcomes for firms and organization. As a broad and fully integrated company, we offer an array of solutions ranging from IT consulting, IT help-desk support, technical implementation and offshoring teams. And yes, I am one of the people who are responsible for the upkeep, configuration, and reliable operation of IT and computer systems; especially multi-user computers, such as servers.

In simple terms, we offer IT support/service to our clients. Our service include Unlimited IT Support (UIT) , which best means “Ask us whatever IT issues you have and we’ll fix it for you. Request us any IT-related setup/stuff and we’ll have that configured for you. Any time of the day, all year round!” May it be local IT requests, email deliverability and monitoring, web hosting and migrations, server setup and maintenance and much more. Think of it this way, if you are an administrator of your computer who can tweak every configuration in your device, then I am your ninja spirit that can do so much more unimaginable things on your computer and your network. ~wink~ And as usual, I am with my boys squad. Yeah, the only techy-lady in my team and I find it  so amazing! We also have other ladies in the team and they are on project management.

I started working here last March 20, 2017. That is just merely three weeks as to this writing and yet all I can say is “working here is one of the best decisions I made in my life this year”. I find it so amazing that with that small span of time, I am able to learn tons of new IT knowledge, helped lots of users with IT issues, and configured settings I never imagined before. I am happy onboard! It is good to think that I am part of something larger who makes a difference.

I find myself excited every day to come to the office and exert my best when it comes to my responsibilities. I am challenged everyday! It is very nice to work in an environment wherein everyone shares the same vision and is dedicated to the mission. This truly creates a family environment where everybody is there for each other and I find that kind of spirit here.
Not only that, people here are absolutely amazing! Though we are of different races and cultures, everyone is still helpful and supportive. We have the freedom to think outside the box and have all thoughts considered. I am able to use my skills and knowledge as well as push myself in areas that I am unsure of myself.

Communication within the team is convenient. If I want to talk to any of my teammate, I can do that because we work on the same shift with very slight difference.
It is so fulfilling having great colleagues everyday who assist me in times of doubt, appreciate the work that I do and also pat as well as thank me for the hard work at the end of the day. Every day is different and it is a constant adventure here. My job challenges me in different ways. I love it! Cheers to more greatness and challenges!

14 Sarcastic Whispers About Valentine's Day



Behold it is Valentine's Season!

There are so many things I can think of when I hear this V-Day word. Here, I will list down 14 sarcastic random whispers my brain gives that correlates with it. Watch out, these are perfectly tangled. Please don't get infected by it *wink*.

1. I am single and happy this Valentine's day because baby I am born this way.

2. Roses are red; violets are blue. It's Singles Awareness Day for me while Valentine's Day for you.

3. Give flowers to your mother; date your father; massage the back of your sister; double the allowance of your brother. Valentine's Day is solely for the family alone and nothing else!

4. Hey Cupid, will you please shoot brains and not hearts?

5. Please don't be sad this 14th. Just remember, nobody loves you on any of those other 364 days of the year.

6. I wonder if I should be happy or sad this 14th. I want to receive flowers and chocolates but for sure nobody will give me. Well, I will buy one for myself and really choose the best ones. Problem solved. On the other hand, I think it's okay to forget these fancy stuff. Afterall, I don't want a single dollar to jump out from my wallet.

7. I warn you not to wear red this Valentine's Day because I have an agreement with the president of the Republic. All bulls will have their rest day from work during the 14th. They will be roaming around in malls, streets, resorts and restaurants. Haha!

8. I am a zombie working my butt hard during night. I sleep 7:00 A.M. in the morning and wake up 3:00 P.M. in the afternoon. When I wake up, there's a notification on my phone and it's you! Thank you for secretly becoming my faraway Valentine by hearting one of my posts.

9. "Happy Valentine's Day!" May your status on Facebook will not change to 'complicated' after Valentines day.

10. How many frogs I need to kiss in order to find the one prince that's riding a horse?

11. Throw that away! Chocolates will give you diabetes and oh, it loves hiding in your belly. You don't want belly fats, do you?

12. Please accept the truth that if your X-ray is good looking compared to your photo, you may find it a little hard to have a date this Valentine's day.

13. It will be a really good idea if Valentine's day is a Second-Holloween-Day. Do you agree?

14. To all doctors and nurses, you will have an overtime this coming November. A lot of babies are coming to Earth.


Congratulations to those who have their special someone during this love month. Make sure to lock each other's hearts in a happy and safe place. Else, you don't want a broken heart at the end, do you? Man, I tell you it's not easy and you will look stupid. Healing process will take you months or even years.

And for those who are independent singles, well, let's continue living our lives each day as if it's the last day! Hopefully our phone and laptop batteries will last long enough as we expected them to be.

Finally, A Song Entitled EMELIE


Did you know that there is a song entitled "EMELIE"? I'm so happy about it because that is my precious first name haha! Plus, the spelling is just so the same. I am usually a victim of name-murdering because it gets misspelled almost all of the time but this singer is just soo cool for me. I got vanity level 999! I'm now smiling from ear to ear :D

“Emelie” by Filous & MOUNT feat. Buster Moe is a beautiful, heart-wrenching song featuring vocals alongside a knee-slapping beat and tons of harmonica. It kind of sounds like the great open country, but it packs a big synthetic kick, and therefore dutifully club ready.

Filous says, "Every once in a while, you start working on a song where everything just seems to come together in the most natural way possible. Every time that happens, it feels incredibly exciting and special! That's exactly what happened with this song.”

My 5 Favorite Pop Music Bands Of All Time

What is the first thing you will think if you are alone in a very quite place just like in your house or in the office? I sense "food" is the answer (haha). Yeah I agree with that but aside from that, if you are a young-blood like me, I will certainly think for cool musics to soothe my brain cells and inner being! You probably are also a music addict - instrumental, metal, pop etc. Yes? No? Maybe? 

 Anyways, I will share to you my five favorite pop music bands of all time. You can download their albums if you want or you may buy their songs if you have extra amount in your bank account. 
And by the way, I may not have the golden voice that they have, but I do know most lyrics of their albums (shoulder-shrugged) so I guess that's one point credited in there, Lol.

Take note that the musics of these five bands have general appeal to teenagers (as well as those teenagers at heart like the one typing this haha). A bland watered-down version of rock'n'roll with more rhythm and harmony and an emphasis on romantic love. No wonder I like these haha!
1. One Direction - an English-Irish pop boy band based in London, composed of Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, and previously, Zayn Malik.


2. Little Mix - a British girl group formed in 2011 during the eighth series of the UK version of The X Factor. They are the first and, so far, only group to win the competition. The members are Jade Thirlwall, Perrie Edwards, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, and Jesy Nelson.


3. 5 Seconds of Summer - an Australian rock band from Sydney composed of Luke Hemmings, Michael Clifford, Calum Hood and Ashton Irwin . The group were originally YouTube celebrities, posting videos of themselves covering songs from various artists. The group have been referred to as a pop punk band in the media.


4. The Vamps - a British pop rock band consisting of Brad Simpson, James McVey, Connor Ball and Tristan Evans. They first gained fame in late 2012 with cover songs uploaded to YouTube, leading to comparisons with One Direction and being labeled as a boy band.


5. My Chemical Romance - (often abbreviated as MCR) was an American rock band from New Jersey, active from 2001 to 2013. The band's best-known lineup consisted of lead vocalist Gerard Way, guitarists Ray Toro and Frank Lero, bassist Mikey Way and drummer Bob Bryar. 



Seriously guys, can I take you all to my cribb?! Let's party with our hearts out and nevermind the neighbors. Please!

How to Become a Front-end Developer and Designer


One day of my life, I realized that I want to become a Front-end Developer. I searched the internet for tips and advises on how to become one and I came across this very cool yet frank advise by Dillon Grove. I really had goosebumps upon reading this and it seemed he was directly talking to me. Thanks Dillon for being such a motivation!


Here it is:  

Like you, I've found that there exist very little in the way front-end web development courses. And the courses that do exist leave a lot to be desired. As a result, it seems to me that most good front-end developers I've met are more or less self-taught. So if all we're trying to do is answer the question you posted ("How do people generally become front-end web developers?") we can stop right here. I tend to agree with your speculation that most of them are probably self-taught.

But I'm willing to bet that's not quite what you want to hear. By virtue of you asking this question, I'm guessing you're trying to find out how you can become a good front-end developer and if that's the case, simply saying "teach yourself" isn't useful.
Now, I could go on and on about what books you could purchase, or which technologies you should learn and in what order but to be honest, I've recently come to the conclusion that all of those things are pretty irrelevant. Sure, pick up a starter book if you want. I really don't think your specific choice of book will make much of a difference in the long run.
I could also start listing off what I think the qualities of a good front-end engineer are and hope that you might absorb some of those qualities. But I don't think that'll do much good either. If you're just starting out in the field, you probably have no idea how to apply those qualities to what you're doing.

Instead, I'm going to try to impart upon you a specific strategy for self-learning. This is the strategy I've used and I daresay it's worked pretty well for me. So here it is:

Stop trying to learn proactively and start doing things instead. Ask and answer your own questions.
Going out there and reading a book/blog about HTML/CSS/JS isn't going to do you much good if you don't know why you're reading it. If you're anything like me, you're going to retain maybe 10% of the material. You could read 20 books on the subject and you're not going to be much closer to being a good front-end developer.

Instead, just start a damn project. Set a goal of making something that you know you don't know how to do. Start writing code. At some point you'll run into a something you don't know how to do. Type what you want to know how to do into Google and figure it out. Then do it.
I should point out that this process can take hours even for the simplest thing. Especially if you don't know exactly what it is you even need to Google. But in 99% of cases, you'll learn something along the way. And the thing you learn will be relevant to what you're doingand because of that it will stick with you. 
You might read about CSS Floats in a book and you're going to forget it within a week. Try to create a layout that requires floats and spend 2 hours on Google until you figure out how to make it work and you're not ever going to forget that shit.
Then keep setting the bar higher. Make loftier goals. Force yourself to meet those goals. Sometimes you'll find out that the thing you want to do isn't possible. Great, you've now learned the boundaries and limitations of the technology you're working with.
You literally cannot go wrong with this approach. No matter what you do, you're going to learn something. 

This all sounds like an incredibly inefficient way of learning, I know. Why would you spend hours on the internet figuring out how to do things on your own when you could supposedly just read a book or two and learn everything you need to know? Because the latter doesn't really work, that's why. There isn't a shortcut to this stuff. You just have to do it. You have to bang your head against the wall until you figure it out. Keep chipping away.
Give it some time and you'll find that you have to consult the internet less and less. You'll run into a problem or a bug and remember experiencing the same bug in another project you've already done. You can then go back to that project, see how you fixed it, and apply the same fix to what you're doing right now. Eventually, you'll just know how to fix things. And then you'll begin to realize that you're getting pretty good at this stuff.


I'm not saying that you should never read a book. Often when you first start out it's good to read at least one introductory book to sort of get your bearings and learn some basic terminology. But don't expect books to do the learning for you. Ultimately, it's up to you.
